![]() ![]() Since then, Bobcat Equipment has remained an innovator and leader in construction and farming equipment. Fast forward ten years and in 1970, they developed a skid-steer loader with a hydrostatic drive system, which increased digging and pushing power. In 1960, the company invented the skid-steer loader, which carried the Bobcat name in 1962. It’s hard to match the invocation Bobcat Equipment brings to the farming and construction industry. Their products are known for their dependability and durability. Bobcat has the nickname “One Tough Animal” and with good reason. Their equipment is built to be reliable and sturdy. The philosophy of Bobcat Equipment is to produce tough, reliable and well-made products and that has remained the same for over 50 years. Although many years have gone by since the company’s early days, their commitment to quality and craftsmanship remains strong. Their business has continued to expand and now includes about 1,000 independent Bobcat dealers that provide sales, rentals, and parts. In 1962 the company rebranded and redesigned the skid-steer loader, and the Bobcat name was born. Started in North Dakota in 1947, by the Melroe family, the company has grown into an international business. They also operate global Bobcat manufacturing facilities in China, France, and the Czech Republic. But their business reaches far beyond North Dakota. Bobcat Equipment is proud to be the state’s largest manufacturer. The also sell skid-steer loaders and small hydraulic equipment. We expect to add to our attachment line-up to bring the Bobcat UTV to more markets and more customers.Bobcat Equipment is a well-known manufacturer of construction and farm equipment including mini-track loaders, excavators, and utility vehicles. We'll continue to focus on the work aspect of our UTVs. However, as the UTV market grows, rental is growing, too. This is a change from three or four years ago when the rental market was not that big for UTVs. These will continue to be fast-growing segments for us. UTVs offer easier entry, better ergonomics and more versatility for maintaining their properties. More and more ag customers and baby boomer rural lifestylers are moving from ATVs to UTVs. Thanks to high commodity prices, the ag market has been strong for us this year. Our dealers are already trained on gas engines and diesel engines and our service organization makes sure our dealers have the knowledge they need. Generally, UTVs are less complicated to service than skid steer or compact track loaders, for example. They need and expect their UTVs to be serviced immediately. ![]() This goes back to how customers are using UTVs - for work. Our most successful dealers also provide great service. That good experience is like an extended demo and could lead to a sale. We encourage our dealers to include the latest models in their rental fleets to ensure customers have a good experience. They've been renting skid steer loaders to the construction market for many years, so have been easily able to adapt to renting UTVs to other markets. Our dealers have also been successful in the rental market. They don't want to wait for the dealer to order. Nothing takes the place of having UTVs on the lot, so a customer can sit in it and test it. To sell products, dealers have to stock products. What makes our dealers successful? It's a combination of many factors, including location, advertising, knowing the customer base, knowing the individual customer, and giving them the personal touch.įully stocked stores are also key to dealer success. Many dealers embrace adding UTVs to their product lines because it expands the types of customers they can reach. We pursue these opportunities through many avenues, including advertising, recruiting at trade shows, dealer meetings, training events and traditional cold calling.īobcat has been in the UTV market since the early 2000s, so we leverage that longevity. We work with our district sales managers, sales team and dealers to find areas in demand for our work UTVs. Our product development team uses our existing dealer network to help identify our next opportunities. Given the work nature of our vehicles and the price point, Big Box stores aren't a fit for us and reaching customers through our dealer channel proves most successful. ![]() We've built a history around a network of independently owned dealers - we really like the entrepreneurial owner. Bobcat expects demand to remain strong for its 3450 4 x 4 model, with its three branded attachments and integrated RapidLink attachment system. ![]()
